2022 EMS Professional of the Year: Ken Elliott

Ken Elliott and his partner, Howard Pham, transported a patient to HCA Conroe for a mental health evaluation and emergency detention order.  Officers secured the scene and restrained the patient for transport. While in emergency department’s hallway waiting for a room, the patient, who still remained secured to the gurney, was able to retrieve a small caliber firearm from under her dress and fired two rounds. 

Ken took immediate action and disarmed the patient, averting a potentially dangerous outcome. No one was injured due to his quick response and heroic efforts.  The Conroe Police Department and the City Council both recognized Ken for his actions.
