More from HHSC:
On September 1st, HHSC implemented Emergency Triage, Treat, and Transport (ET3) services in Texas Medicaid as an expansion of ambulance services. The ET3 benefit encourages appropriate utilization of emergency medical services by providing person-centered care at the most appropriate level and improve quality of care by reducing hospitalizations and unnecessary transports to an emergency department.
In alignment with Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services guidelines, Texas Medicaid may reimburse ambulance providers responding to an emergency call for transporting patients to an alternative destination, other than an emergency department, and for providing or facilitating treatment in place, in accordance with emergency transport service’s established protocols and medical direction.
Texas Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) must provide all medically necessary, Medicaid-covered services to eligible clients. Administrative procedures such as prior authorization, precertification, referrals, and claims/encounter data filing may differ from traditional Medicaid (fee-for-service) and from MCO to MCO.
